How to assemble your Mimi-Foyer?

You have received your mini-fireplace and are ready to assemble it. Here are the simple steps to set it up:

1. Unbox and Savor the Moment

Take a moment to appreciate your purchase or gift.

2. Prepare the Cup

Ensure the stainless steel cup is properly placed inside the concrete fireplace.

3. Get Ethanol

You will need ethanol to light your Mimi-Foyer. Here are some places where you can get it:

Burn Time

Your Mimi-Foyer offers a burn time of approximately 2 hours when the cup is filled to the max line. 

 

And there you have it! Your mini-fireplace is ready to use.

Using Your Mimi-Foyer Ethanol Fireplace

Step 1: Fill the Cup

Carefully pour ethanol into the stainless steel container. To avoid spills, use a funnel if necessary.

  • In case of a spill: Do not attempt to light the fireplace immediately. Wipe away any trace of ethanol with a dry cloth before proceeding.

Step 2: Lighting

Use a long match or a lighter to ignite the ethanol. The typical burn time is approximately 2 hours. 

  • Important: Never refill the fireplace immediately after extinguishing. Wait until it has completely cooled down.

Step 3: Extinguishing

The recommended method is to smother the flame by placing a flat, heat-resistant object (such as metal) over the opening. Several common items work very well:

  • A small pot lid
  • A small metal cake pan, placed upside down
  • A small baking sheet
  • A concrete coaster, which is what I show in the video above
  • Dedicated snuffers can also be found online (search for "ethanol snuffer lid" or "ethanol burner snuffer")

Some important extinguishing guidelines:

  • Place the object flat over the opening and leave it in place for at least 1 minute, as the flame can reignite if removed too quickly.
  • Use an oven mitt if the object does not have a handle: it will get hot.
  • Never use water and never blow on the flame.
  • The simplest way is to let the fuel burn out completely.
  • Do not touch the fireplace until it has cooled down: concrete and steel can remain hot for a long time.

  • Never leave a lit fireplace unattended.
  • Use in a well-ventilated area.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Store ethanol in a cool, dry place, with the container tightly sealed.

What ethanol should be used for a tabletop fireplace? Use fireplace-grade ethanol (bioethanol), sold in hardware stores (Canadian Tire, Canac, BMR) or online. Never use gasoline, rubbing alcohol, or any other fuel.

Can the mini fireplace be used indoors? Yes, ethanol burns cleanly, without smoke or ash. Always use the fireplace in a well-ventilated room, on a stable surface, away from drafts and flammable materials.

How long does a flame last? Approximately 2 hours when the cup is filled to the maximum line. Always wait until the fireplace has completely cooled down before refilling.

Is the snuffer lid sold with the fireplace? Not yet, but a new version of the Mimi-Foyer including a fitted snuffer lid is under development. In the meantime, the concrete coaster works perfectly.
