Une urne à son image — parce que chaque animal est unique

An urn in its image – because every animal is unique

This article specifically discusses pet memorial urns and containers. For human funeral urns, our considerations are different—we can discuss them upon request.

An urn in their image — because every pet is unique

An urn is more than just a container for ashes

First, let's clarify something that isn't said enough: a pet urn isn't necessarily meant for ashes.

It's a container for memories. You can put their collar, a favorite toy, a lock of fur, a small note. Some make it into a memorial candle. Others put a photo, a tag, a keepsake that belonged to them.

The idea is to have a tangible, beautiful object that honors what this animal meant in your life. Regardless of what's inside.

So, what color for an urn?

It's a question we rarely ask... and yet, it deserves thought.

When you visit a veterinary clinic or a cremation center after a loss, the available urns are often in neutral, standardized shades. Black, white, brown, gray. In some cases, it's simply the reality of inventory management. To have products immediately available, colors that suit the largest number of people are chosen.

This model is practical. But it doesn't leave much room for the uniqueness of your pet.

What changes when manufacturing on demand

A few players in the industry have started doing things differently. Compagnons Éternels, for example, already offers a beautiful variety of colors — pink, blue, beige, marbled, and they were among the first to offer Concrete Memory urns in several shades. This is a good sign that the industry is moving towards more personalization, not just by adding paw print stickers.

At Concrete Memory, we push this idea even further. Because manufacturing on demand allows you to choose, really choose, the color that makes sense for you.

Among other things, with our urn creation workshops on-site in Mascouche. You come and make your urn with your own hands and choose the color as you create it. If you can't come in person, email us at info@concretememory.com with your request.

The color of their fur. Or the color of your peace.

Your golden retriever had warm, caramel fur. Your cat had bluish reflections. Your rabbit was white as snow.

These colors are part of your memory of them. It is entirely possible to draw inspiration from them for the urn, to create something that visually resembles them, that bears their mark.

But, and this is important, it's not an obligation. Sometimes, the exact color of their fur doesn't fit into your living space. And that's okay. The urn will find a place in your home, in your daily life. It can very well be in a shade that makes you feel good, that harmonizes with your environment, and that still reminds you of everything they represented.

There's no right or wrong answer. There's just your choice, made without rushing.

Why concrete?

Artisanal concrete absorbs color organically. It's not a lacquered, cold, uniform surface. The shade integrates into the material, breathes, and ages well. Each piece is slightly unique — like the animal it commemorates.

It's a material with character. Which, in our opinion, makes it a particularly fitting choice for preserving the memory of someone who had a lot of it.

Taking the time to choose

Grief has no schedule. And choosing an urn shouldn't be rushed either.

If you want to participate in the making yourself — choose the shade, shape the object with your hands, give it form — our pet grief workshops are designed for that. It's a moment for you as much as for them.
